Short Product introduction
VinLINK Service designed for http access can be utilized from any operating system including: UNIX, (LINUX), MAC OS, MS Windows Operating System,MS PocketPC where developer can use a simple http technology to request and to receive a decoded report with a standardized XML format. It can be simply integrated within any project and provides functionality of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) decoder with VIN validation and verification including enhanced equipment information based on JATO Database. VinLINK Service incorporates a state of the art VIN decoder algorithm technology developed within ESP Data Solutions with sophisticated database of vehicles like passenger cars, sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, heavy trucks (tractor trailers), trailers, motorcycles and even buses marketed and sold on the North American market. VinLINK Service incorporates the VinPOWER Technology with JATO Dynamics enhanced database providing a very detailed vehicle equipment along with other information provided by JATO Dynamics. VinLINK Technology links VinPOWER VIN Decoder with JATO Database simplifying the decoding process.
VinLINK Service is integrated with your project as a standard http request. After simple http call to VinLINK Service will result in an extensive XML report providing thousands of attributes values for a specified VIN.

VinLINK can be implemented into many languages such:

Implementation steps include:
The VinLINK system is a standard HTTP POST protocol.
  • Open TCP/IP connection to VinLINK server.
  • Send request formatted as an HTTP POST (RFC 2616, see http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2616.html).
    (for example: http://service.vinlink.com/report?type=basic&vin=1FMCUo4112KA7126 )
  • The VinLINK server will access vehicle data, format it as XML, output the information through the same TCP/IP connection and close the connection.
    The information is sent as a standard HTTP reply, with content set to "text/xml".
  • Reads the information and close your side of the TCP/IP connection.
Updates procedure
Since VinLINK Service is residing on ESP Data Solutions Server, the end user does not need to perform any updates. It has been taken care directly on our server providing our users the latest data available.
Results provided by VinLINK Service tools
VinLINK uses the same database as other VinPOWER products. The database contains data of vehicles since 1981 until present. Later the VinPOWER results are enhanced with JATO Database search results and provided to the requestor in an XML format. The optional picture is Base64 coded and included within the XML Report.

The FULL version of a VinLINK REPORT in XML format contains two major Tags :
  • VINPOWER
  • VEHICLES
Since the VIN may not specify just enough information to get a single record, all available records for this particular VIN are returned within the report. Here is a sample VEHICLES tag showing such situation:
